Susan Fitzsimmons
Biography
Professor Susan Fitzsimmons is the Chair of the Department of Art & Art History at the 老司机福利网. Fitzsimmons is originally from St. Louis, Missouri but now lives in Mobile, Alabama. She lived in Texas, Mississippi, Missouri, New York and Illinois. She lived in New York for more than 23 years where she had several one-person shows at Just Above Midtown Gallery, Louis Abrons Arts for Living Center, and St. Peter鈥檚 Church in New York City. She exhibited her work in more than 250 group shows that included venues such as Albright Knox Museum, Munson-Williams-Proctor Institute, Albany Institute of History and Art Institute, Saratoga Springs Historical Museum, Schenectady Museum, San Angelo Museum of Art Sculpture Garden; K-Space, Corpus Christi; Webster University, St. Louis, Texas A&M University, Kingsville, TX, Blue Star, San Antonio; Art Venice Biennale 3, Venice, Italy, 2015; University of Texas San Antonio; Lawndale Sculpture Center, Houston, TX; Marfa Biennial, Marfa TX; Dougherty Art Center, Austin, TX; Texas Biennial (2013). Her work is in the permanent collections of San Angelo Museum of Art, International Museum of Art and Science, McAllen, Texas, SUNY Plattsburg, NY.
Her sculpture was included in shows in Peschiera del Garda, Venice, Florence, Rome, Italy; Barcelona, Spain and Berlin, Germany in 2017-2018. Her work is pictured in Art International Magazine (May/June 2017, March/April 2017, Jan/Feb 2018, March/April2018), and "The Best Modern and Contemporary Artists鈥 catalog, (Berlin, September 2017). Her last one person exhibition in Texas was reviewed in Sculpture Magazine in January/February 2016 as well as pictured in Sculpture Magazine September 2018. She received numerous prizes and grants including the International Award Caravaggio; (May 26, 2017); International Award Francisco Goya; International Award Dante Alighieri, Peschiera del Garda Biennale (April 1, 2017); Kerspit and Flemish Community Visiting Artist Grant to Ghent, Belgium; Fulbright CIES grant; Mississippi Arts Commission-National Endowment for the Arts; AFROTC Distinguished Educator; New York State Council of the Arts; The Guggenheim Foundation; C.A.S.T.: Collaborations in Science and Technology, Syracuse University and New York State Council for the Arts; National Endowment for the Arts; Henry Street Settlement House Foundation and New York City Arts Council: Artist in Residence.
