The faculty members of the College are all dedicated scholars and clinicians who are committed to the best possible education for our students. All of our programs' graduates have an outstanding success rate on national qualifying examinations and employment after graduation. Students in our pre-professional programs have an excellent acceptance rate into the graduate and medical schools of their choosing.

The College of Arts and Sciences is the intellectual center of the University of ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø Alabama and is the foundation for establishing and building the quality of the University’s academic programs. In the College of Arts and Sciences students receive broad exposure to all areas of academic inquiry, as well as in-depth knowledge in their chosen field of study. The College provides every undergraduate student at the University, regardless of major, with the fundamentals of a liberal arts education to enhance students’ knowledge and create an atmosphere in which students develop their own critical thinking, communication skills, and the tools with which to carry out independent inquiry. Such an education promotes a heightened sense of intellectual curiosity, an appreciation of the values and accomplishments of the sciences, arts and humanities, and a sense of awareness and responsibility for the well-being of their society.

In achieving these educational goals, the College of Arts and Sciences will:

  • Offer a full range of subjects in the humanities, fine arts, social sciences, mathematics, and the natural sciences.
  • Encourage breadth of learning and training in the fundamentals of scholarship.
  • Create and apply knowledge in the arts and sciences through dedicated research, teaching, scholarship, and creative works.

Vision Statement

To be the business school of choice in the Gulf Coast Region.
Mission Statement

To contribute to the continuing intellectual, social and economic development of the Gulf Coast Region by offering accredited business education programs to qualified students, producing scholarly research to expand knowledge and support economic development and providing service programs focused on regional needs. We accomplish this mission and contribute to the continuing success of the University through quality instruction, faculty scholarship, and the delivery of external service program.

Priorities:

I. Instruction:

The academic success of our students is a major priority of the college with emphasis on excellent teaching.
II. Faculty Scholarship:

Of equal importance to instruction is the production of applied research, pedagogical research, and basic research for the purpose of expanding knowledge, enhancing instruction, and contributing to regional economic development. The increased focus on research reflects the growth and development of graduate programs across the University, including the addition of a Ph.D. program in the Mitchell College of Business. The increased focus on research is also reflected in the faculty classification definitions and in the importance of research as a factor in merit, promotion, and tenure decisions.
III. Service:

The College engages in external service activities that support and contribute to the development of the University, the Gulf Coast region and to provide for the continuing development of the faculty and staff through interaction with the College’s numerous constituents.

This is an exciting time in the history of the College of Education and Professional Studies. On February 1, 1967, the College was formed as the first college independent of Arts and Sciences and was the first college in the University to begin a program of graduate studies. In the nearly fifty years since then, we have worked hard to establish ourselves as the Gulf Coast leader in preparing high quality professionals who are committed to maximizing the potential of every citizen to participate fully in a global society. Our graduates carry this commitment into their professional lives as educators, whether as teachers, counselors, psychologists, administrators, special educators, media specialists, instructional designers, or practitioners and researchers in health, physical education, and leisure studies.


Our commitment is informed by a sense of the practical and guided by our hope for the possible. We understand that the problem of educating each generation of students for effective citizenship in a global society demands our persistent attention to learning over a life-time. Our understanding is based on our direct experience working in and with the diverse set of communities that inform our lives together.

As a community of learners, we are dedicated to providing quality, accessible undergraduate and graduate professional education that prepares our graduates for a professional career. This work is done in a dynamic environment of collaboration that involves faculty working alongside our students and educational partners in classrooms, laboratories, schools, community and government agencies, health and recreational facilities, and local businesses. In this way we are able to promote the creation and dissemination of knowledge while also serving our constituents through professional development programs and community outreach that assists regional educational agencies in meeting their professional obligations.

The College of Education and Professional Studies offers many advantages to the student pursuing an education degree. Mission

The mission of the College of Nursing is to provide quality​,​ innovative educational programs to a diverse student body, to participate in research and scholarly activities, and to provide service to the University, the profession, and the public. The College accomplishes this by providing a caring, engaging environment for the empowerment of student learning potential, the professional development of faculty, and the promotion of the nursing profession.
Goals

Welcome to the School of Computing at the ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø.

The world economy is increasingly driven by computing. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates that by 2018 computing occupations in the United States will grow by 21 percent or about 800,000 new jobs – more than double the growth rate of all other occupations in the United States.

Establishing a skilled computing workforce is essential to the long term economic stability of the region and can provide Alabama students long-term, recession-resilient employment opportunity. The School of Computing will meet the challenge.

Whether you are interested in creating computer games, defending cyberspace, building computer networks, or finding computing solutions to business challenges, you have come to the right place.

Unlike many universities, the computing paradigms are centralized at USA. This allows for overlap and cross pollination that enriches each computing field, while providing each space to accomplish the depth of basic research. Our Center for Forensics, Information Technology, and Security connects our faculty and students to industry and government through internships and technology transfer.

Our graduates are equipped with a broad spectrum of technology and analytical skills. Students have been placed in high tech companies such as Microsoft, Northrop Grumman, Cisco and Oracle, as well as local partners such as CTS, SSI, Televox and CPSI. We also offer a scholarship program that leads directly to cyber defender jobs in the federal service.

You will find that the source of this rich depth and breadth of skills and knowledge rests with the School of Computing faculty. With a stable group of professors and instructors, the preparation and presentation quality of our coursework compares favorably with any in the United States. You won’t find yourself in large lectures taught by TAs in the School of Computing.
