Maria Papp

November 14, 2005 – December 22, 2005 (Third Floor Gallery)

Sumi-e means “ink picture” because this art form uses an economy of brush strokes to communicate the essence of the subject being drawn. It has its roots in Zen Buddhism and Chinese calligraphy.

Papp has been identified with the Asian concept of ink brush painting for more than 20 years. She is a featured and recognized artist not only in the local area, but also regionally, nationally and internationally. Some of her works are included in private collections in Argentina, Japan and the United States. In 2005, her work was selected to be part of a juried show in the International Asian Sumi-e with exhibitions in Japan at the Kyoto Museum and Osaka Fine Art Museum.
