“Spiritu Sanctu”

July 1, 2008 – August 30, 2008 (Third Floor Gallery)

“Spiritu Sanctu,” the name given to Mobile Bay in 1519 by Alonzo Pineda, means “Holy Spirit.”   Having been fortunate enough to grow up in Mobile, Devlin never lacked for aesthetic subject matter.  Mobile Bay and its tributaries inspire much of his work, and he says he can only imagine the spiritual experience Alonzo had while naming and mapping the area nearly 500 years ago. “Spiritu Sanctu” expresses Devlin's enthusiasm about Mobile and our natural resource, Mobile Bay.
