Professors to Host Free Concert

Most people know Dr. S. Raj Chaudhury as the executive director of the Innovation in Learning Center and as an associate professor of physics at the ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø, but he is also an avid musician. He is the founder and director of the ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø Alabama Indian Music Ensemble.
Two other ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø professors, Dr. Dhananjay Tambe and Dr. Rajarshi Dey, also are involved in leading the ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø Alabama Indian Music Ensemble. Tambe is an assistant professor in both mechanical engineering and . He also serves as faculty advisor for the USA cricket club. Dey is an assistant professor for the mathematics and statistics department and the cultural secretary of the Gulf Coast Bengali Association. These professors are leaders in their respective sciences and leaders in the music community.
Chaudhury and Dey will be co-hosting a free concert on June 23 at 6 p.m. at the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center. It will feature classical performances of Indian song and dance from around the region and include special guests the Notinee dance group from Birmingham and the ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø Alabama Indian Music Ensemble. Songs in different ragas (melodic scales) and talas (rhythmic patterns) will be presented.
