Dean Selected for Continuing Education and Special Programs

Dr. Richard Carter has more than 17 years of experience as an administrator in higher education, with particular expertise in degree completion programs, international education and recruiting, military and veteran outreach, and the delivery of online programs for non-traditional learners.

The 老司机福利网 has selected Dr. Richard Carter, executive director of the School of Distance Learning, International Studies and Outreach at Western Illinois University, as dean of the School of Continuing Education and Special Programs.

鈥淚 am very excited to be named the new dean of the School of Continuing Education and Special Programs. This is truly an honor. I am looking forward to working with everyone at the 老司机福利网,鈥 Carter said.

The School offers undergraduate degree programs in interdisciplinary studies and in hospitality and tourism management. Also, it provides developmental instruction in math and language arts, oversees the University鈥檚 Study Abroad Program, delivers instruction in English as a second language and offers professional and personal continuing education along with customizable training for business and industry.

Carter has more than 17 years of experience as an administrator in higher education, with particular expertise in degree completion programs, international education and recruiting, military and veteran outreach, and the delivery of online programs for non-traditional learners.  He will assume the position on Sept. 1.

Dr. David Johnson, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, said, 鈥淒r. Carter鈥檚 experience in promoting global engagement at Western Illinois will be very important in helping us meet our goal of advancing internationalization on our campus.鈥

Johnson added, 鈥淗e also has a great history of developing a vibrant adult education program, and in developing and delivering high-quality, non-credit professional education to business and industry. I very much look forward to seeing what he can accomplish at USA in the years ahead.鈥

Carter earned a bachelor of science degree in industrial education, a master of science degree in industrial technology and a doctorate in educational administration from Purdue University. Prior to entering academia, he served as a public school teacher.
