The USA Wind Ensemble is the premier instrumental ensemble in the Department of Music.
A select performing ensemble of woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumentalists,
the Wind Ensemble emphasizes wind ensemble literature and live performance. The Wind
Ensemble is open to music majors and non-majors with prior instrumental performance
experience in high school or junior college. All students must win an audition each
semester in order to join the ensemble.
The ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø Symphony Band is the Department's second concert band.
A large performing ensemble of woodwind, brass and percussion instrumentalists, the
USA Symphony Band emphasizes wind band literature and live performance. The ensemble,
which meets in both Fall and Spring semester, is open by audition to both music majors
and non-music majors. All members of the ensemble must win an audition each semester
in order to join the band.

The ÀÏ˾»ú¸£ÀûÍø University Band is the Department's third concert
band. This large performing ensemble ensemble of woodwind, brass and percussion instrumentalists
is open to all students, faculty and staff on the campus of USA. Music majors and
minors are encouraged to play a secondary instrument in this ensemble to gain more
experience with that instrument. The ensemble meets in the Spring semester only,
on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30PM. The ensemble's focus is to continue the development
of musical skills by playing standard and contemporary wind band literature and by
giving one performance during the Spring semester. This is a non-auditioned ensemble,
all members are welcomed into the ensemble with previous high school or college band
experience (or equivalent private study on a band instrument).
The USA University Band is conducted by Dr. Clayton Maddox, Assistant Director of Bands.
Auditions
Auditions occur at the beginning of each semester for Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band.
There is no audition for acceptance into University Band, which meets only in the
spring semester. There is a seating placement audition on the second full meeting
of the class in order to assign parts.
